No we do not speak Celtic at this Tyler Tx Bed and Breakfast, but we still wish you 100,000 welcomes. A little bit of what will be happening in our area the next few days!

Tyler State Park Dogwood Days starts March 14 and runs through March 30th. Activities taking place on Saturdays include knot tying, birding, kids wilderness survival, a wild food hike and SNAKE FEEDING. Sounds like fun to me!!!

On Tuesday, the 26th Annual Taste Of Tyler takes place. You will be very close to the event by staying at The Rosevine Inn. Approximately 25 restaurants will participate with an assortment of culinary delights and beverages, along with entertainment for your enjoyment. Regular admission is $15.00 in advance & $20.00 at the door.

March 18th brings the second Art Walk in Downtown Tyler. It is from 4-8 pm and with daylight savings time in effect, it should be a fun time. Speaking of art-The Tyler Museum of Art is having it’s 6th Annual Hight School Art Exhibition. This annual exhibition showcases the works of graduating seniors from area high schools, providing opportunity and experience for those aspiring to pursue a career in art following graduation.

Beauty & The Beast Bicycle Tour get underway promptly at 8:30 am on March 20th. Make your reservations now for lodging.

This event brings cyclists together from across the region to enjoy the beauty of East Texas and to conquer the hill we refer to as “The Beast.” Kids’ Rodeo (8:30am) Bicycle Tour (9am, Course closes at 3pm).

The sixteenth annual Four Winds Renaissance Faire celebrates life in the 17th century with The longest full contact Joust competition in America Eight full weekends of competition to select the Texas State Joust team that will compete in the international finals in September in Estes Park, Colorado. Numerous shows, fabulous food, hand crafting demonstrations and wondrous merchants ensure all our guests a great time at the Four Winds Renaissance Faire. Come spend a Day with our knights.

An annual 8-weekend Renaissance festival featuring knights, jousting, belly dancers, magicians, 100 craftsmen and demonstrating artists. Games, rides, food and fun for the whole family.

One other special attraction in the area is Mrs. Lees Daffodil Garden-It should not be missed.

Most people have never heard of it… yet those who have, believe it is a private paradise tucked away among the East Texas landscape. It is considered to be the best kept secret in East Texas. Mrs. Lee’s Garden is a 816-acre tract of land that is drastically transformation every February and March. Each spring the acreage becomes a golden haven of beauty. Millions of golden daffodils, scattered over approximately 28 acres, begin to bloom. Visitors can see all the beauty by traveling along a four-mile trail that meanders around two lakes, between wooded valleys, and around a replica pioneer log cabin. It is a sight that leaves visitors in absolute awe.

Within the boundaries of this 918-acre farm is a lesson of history, a sermon on the wonders of God’s nature and much beauty for people to see. Due to the hard work, patience and love of Mrs. Lee, for her God, her country and her fellowman, to be able to add to the beauty of nature for all to enjoy as much as she did.

Extreme Makeover Comes to Tyler

Extreme Makeover will be here February 25 to knock on the door of a very deserving family. Come to town and see them. it should be interesting .

The Emmy-award winning reality show on ABC Television, is coming to East Texas to surprise one lucky family with an extreme home makeover. Local builder Bayless Custom Homes has accepted the challenge to construct a new home in just one week for one very deserving family. “When we watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, we realize how blessed we all are, and that with God all things are possible. We are humbled and excited to accept this challenge.

However, completing this project will only be possible with the help of many volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and the generosity of the entire community. This is about showing America the heart and soul of East Texas and we challenge everyone to come together to give a few hours of your life to change someone else’s life. Together, we will build a quality home that will show Texas pride with love & compassion, which will resonate with East Texans forever.

There are other things going on here at that time let’s see!!!

Now this sounds fun! A Night of Rock and Roll to Benefit Breckenridge Village.

Chili anyone? There is a cookoff scheduled on Saturday the 27th. Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI)and Half Moon Grill & Saloon host the 3rd Annual Charity Chili Challenge. Held at Half Moon Grill & Saloon. Benefits St. Mary Magdalen Church Youth Group.

Okay how about a Celtic Music Concert-Coming on the 27th in Edom is Beyond The Pales’ eclectic and diverse mix of traditional celtic and contemporary styles is the key to their popularity. They have developed their unique sound by blending their own original songs and compositions with an array of traditional dance tunes and folk songs of Ireland, America Scotland and Europe using a wide range of instruments including fiddle, flute, accordion, guitar, hammered dulcimer, tin whistle, saxophone, harmonica, concertina, mandolin, clarinet, bodhran, percussion and of course the voices of band members. True to their name, Beyond The Pale delivers a wild musical ride outside the boundaries of convention. The concert is at The Old Firehouse at 7: pm.

It is always so much fun in East Texas when it snows!! We got a nice snowfall on February 11th. It is really pretty and not too dangerous as long as we do not get icing. Hope all enjoyed. Thorton Wilders “Our Town”

A mix of newcomers and veterans will bring the story of Grovers Corners, New Hampshire, to life on the stage of the Rogers Theatre. With minimal set pieces and the eloquent narrative of Pulitzer Prize winner Thornton Wilder, the company will welcome the audience to a small town at the turn of the 20th century.

Guiding the proceedings will be Steve Swords of Hideaway as the Stage Manager, one of the premier roles written for the English-speaking theater.

Eight actors are cast as neighboring families, the Gibbs and the Webbs. Bill Burgdorf of Tyler will play Dr. Gibbs, the town’s physician, with Suzanne Alford of Tyler as his wife, Julia, Blayne Ballard of Troup as their son, George, and Taylor Holliday of Tyler as their daughter, Rebecca.

Ron Solomon of Tyler will make his TCTC debut as Mr. Webb, editor of the town’s newspaper. Sharon Troxell of Flint will play his wife, Myrtle, with her real-life daughter, Megan, as their daughter, Emily. Completing the Webb family is Ryan Castner of Lindale in the double roles of Emily’s younger brother, Wally, and (later in the play) the Webbs’ cousin, Sam Craig.

Making their TCTC debuts as other citizens of the town are Kerron James, a student at UT Tyler, as organist Simon Stimson, and Nancy Burgdorf of Tyler as Mrs. Soames.

Five actors will play multiple roles: Tyler residents Owen Crawford as Howie Newsome and Joe Stoddard; Sean Holliday as Mr. Morgan and Farmer McCarthy; Steve McDonald as Constable Warren and the minister; Clarence Strickland as Professor Willard and Mr. Carter, and Julia Troxell of Flint as Joe Crowell and, later, Joe’s brother.

Mike Hargrove is creating sound for the production, featuring turn-of-the-20th-century music and familiar hymns. LeeAnna Burgdorf and Leah Crawford will be in the tech booth, with Deborah Crawford providing backstage assistance. Daye Collins and Judy Watson are the producers. Robin Root is making her directorial debut at TCTC as guest director for this show.

The next big holiday is Valentine’s Day. Start thinking of what you might want to do for the one you love!!

The best thing to do for Valentines is to make a reservation at a Tyler Bed and Breakfast. Rosevine Inn has a few rooms left and what a wonderful and romantic thing to do for your loved one. Sitting by the fire and sipping a glass of bubbly is so special!!

Not much else going on for Valentines but there are a few thing happening in the next couple of weeks.

Folk singer Peter Mayer will be in Edom on Feb. 5th. His music breaks the boundries of “Folk” and transcends to a realm beyond everyday love song, to a place of wonder. You could combine the evening with the Edom Bakery and Grill for dinner!

For a fun girl’s night out-The Real Women’s Expo is on Tuesday February 9th starting at 11 am. Looks like lots of fun and freebies.

Finally on Feb. 12th Rodney Atkins is in Town! He will be at the Oil Palace live in concert at 8 pm.

2010 is here now. We are welcoming in a new decade. What will it bring? Who knows? There are a few things happening in Tyler in the next few weeks.

The East Texas Bridal Extravaganza in January 3rd. If you are getting married any time soon this is the venue for you.

What a Happy Bride!!

The East Texas Texas Symphony Orchestra will be performing on January 9th at The Cowan Center. Angela Brown will be featured. She is a soprano with great versatility singing tunes from Verdi Arias to Gershwin to spiritual tunes. Concert starts at 7.30.

A quick peek at a few things coming up later in the month. The Scandal Point will be performed at The Tyler Civic Theatre Jan 22 through January 31. Bill Engvall is in Tyler on Jan 23rd. For the kids, Nate the Great Musical is coming to the Cowan Center on Jan. 26th.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Have you ever wondered if there really was a Star of the Magi? Well you can go to the Hudnall Planetarium on the TJC campus and get some great information on this very subject. It is a Christmas astronomy show that gives scientific and theoretical explanations for the star that appeared over Bethlehem the night that Jesus Christ was born!! You can see it on Saturday the 19th or Sunday the 20th at 2:00 pm.

Of course, need I say that you should make Rosevine Inn Bed and Breakfast your home base for Tyler Lodging for all these activities!

KE Bushman’s located at Kiepersol Estates Winery just south of Tyler is sponsoring some wonderful Christmas Concerts with a myriad of inspirational performers. We missed the first two, but the best is last and it will be in Dec. 20th from 6-8 pm. It features Candace Wicke,Carnegie Hall Conductor, and the Memphis Sound, a blues and jazz group. The tickets are free, but it is a fundraiser benefitting the Mane Mission, a great cause!! My Husband and I are going to this and we hope you can join us. (:

On Thursday the 17th, there will be a Musical Celebration with Klezmer Music in celebration of the Chanukah Festival. Klezmer is Eastern European Jewish music. The band is made up of local musicians and open to the entire community. It is FREE also, but canned goods will be collected for PATH. It takes place on the TJC campus at 7 pm. PATH stands for people attempting to help and is one of the best charity organizations around.

Maybe you enjoy music featured at the Gladewater Opry. Their Christmas show is Saturday Dec 19 at 8 pm. Admission is $8. You will see performances by some greats like Ashley Keen, Derek Howell, Anna Taylor, Erica Hawthorn, Tom Brown, Laurie Kay. Corey, Levoy. Alanna Rae’, Jordon Todd and Linda Flesher–plus the big guy, SANTA!!!

On Christamas Eve go to the candlelight service in Bergfeld Park at the ampitheatre. It is at 6pm and there will be live music, hot drinks and good memories.

This will be the last blog of the year!! Time for the reason for the season-Jesus and family!!

Some things coming up in January are the East Texas Wedding Extravaganza on January 3rd. They open at 12 noon and will feature some very trendy and innovative ideas. Plus a style show and fabulous prizes.

On January 9th the East Texas Symphony Orchestra is featuring opera sensation Angela Brown in concert. She will be performing Verdi arias, Gershwin songs and traditional spiritual tunes.

Jan. 22 begins the 10 day run of Scandal Point at the Civic Theatre and then January 23 brings Bill Engvall to town at 7:30.

The tree is up at Rosevine Inn! The holiday season is in full swing-last weekend we had our Canton girls here. They shopped ’til they dropped then relaxed at this tyler bed and breakfast . We love when we get to visit with them, they have been here for many years!!

You should come and stay with us. There is alot to see and do, besides the great shopping! Journey Through Bethlehem is a wonderful drive-thru nativity that is set up every year at Trinity Baptist Church. It is free and only blocks form the B&B. It takes place Dec. 9 thtu Dec 12. After all, it is THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!

Now for a real treat !! 4th Annual Holiday in the Park

Friday, Saturday and Sunday–There will be SNOW!!! It is lots of fun. On Saturday evening the movie “Holiday Inn” will be showing. So break out the long johns and the hot chocolate and come and ENJOY>>>>>>>>>>

Other happenings in the coming week

Handel’s Messiah will be preformed at the Cowan Center by the East Texas Symphony and the ETSO Chorus. It will be beautiful and on Dec 13th Green Acres Baptist Church will have a Christmas special with a 300 voice choir and a 65 piece orchestra.

Dec 16th brings The Wizard Of Oz at the Cowan Center direct from Broadway and on Dec 20th the Civic Chorale will perform .

Don’t forget the drive thru Christmas Light parks. There are two very close. Santaland and Up in Lights.
