The month begins with the beloved Rose City Christmas Parade & Drone Show on December 4, a dazzling tradition that lights up downtown Tyler with marching bands, floats, and the sparkle of thousands of tiny bulbs. The parade ends with a breathtaking drone show over the square—a modern twist on Christmas wonder that makes children and grown-ups alike lift their faces to the night sky in awe.

On December 4, the legendary Darlene Love brings her powerful voice and timeless holiday hits to the Cowan Center. Her renditions of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” and “Winter Wonderland” fill the theater with soul-stirring joy—proof that no one ushers in the season quite like a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.

Just down the road, Whitehouse Christmas on Main (Dec. 5–6) transforms a quiet stretch of East Texas into a picture-perfect small-town celebration. You’ll find handmade gifts, cocoa stands, and the kind of neighborly smiles that make you want to linger long after the last carol fades.

The Tyler Junior College production of The Nutcracker (Dec. 5–14) returns, wrapping audiences in a swirl of music and movement. As snowflakes drift across the stage and the Sugar Plum Fairy twirls beneath the lights, you can almost smell the roasted pecans and peppermint that perfume the lobby.

Friday, December 6, brings a full evening of festive fun. Snuggle under a blanket at Bergfeld Park for Movies in the Park: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, or tap your foot to American Aquarium live at Stanley’s Famous Pit Bar-B-Q. Between the smoky scent of brisket, twinkle lights strung through the trees, and the soulful sound of guitars, it’s an East Texas evening to savor. If country’s more your tune, see Robert Earl Keen at the Cowan Center. Music that stirs up a grassroots sensations not seen since the ’70s heyday of maverick “outlaw country.”

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, 1946.

For something classic, step inside Liberty Hall for It’s a Wonderful Life—a timeless reminder of community, grace, and the quiet beauty of small-town Christmases.

As the month deepens, downtown Tyler glows in gold and green for the Holiday Open House (Dec. 8–13). Shops along the square open their doors late into the evening, offering cider and cookies to shoppers who wander through twinkling window displays. The faint sound of carolers drifts from side streets, blending with the laughter of children trying to catch snowflakes from the machines lining the square.

The Oak Hills Terrace Memory Care Christmas Market on December 11 invites guests to browse handcrafted gifts while supporting a heartfelt cause. That same evening, Gotta Graze hosts a festive charcuterie class—complete with spiced nuts, sugared cranberries, and a dash of laughter shared over glasses of mulled wine.

Beginning on December 11 come to Tyler's East Texas Fairground for A Dickens Christmas. Step back in time where the buildings have been transformed into a Dickens era. Let the kids play on inflatables, shop for last minute gifts from vendors, listen to live music and marvel at the twinkling lights, smells and sounds of Christmas. Comedy lovers can unwind with Andy Haynes at Rose City Comedy Club, where laughter feels especially bright against the backdrop of cold nights and warm hearts (Dec. 12–13). Meanwhile, Tyler Civic Theatre presents Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (Dec. 12–14 and Dec. 18-21), a nostalgic production full of tap-dancing cheer, classic songs, and the kind of soft lighting that makes every snowflake shimmer.

For those who prefer to greet the season with movement, the Saint Nick’s Run Fest on December 13 invites runners to don Santa hats and jingle bells for a spirited jog through cool morning air. Later that day, the Chapel Hill Baseball Association Holiday Market offers more family fun with vendors, food, and festive tunes.

At First Christian Church, Winter Fest with Santa (Dec. 13) fills the air with laughter, frosting, and the sweet smell of cocoa, while on December 14, the soaring voices of Green Acres Baptist Church fill the sanctuary for Hope Has a Name, a Christmas concert that leaves the audience hushed and glowing as they step out into the cold.

By mid-December, the city feels wrapped in a quilt of light. The White Christmas Carolers sing their way through FRESH by Brookshire’s from December 12–21, their harmonies rising above the clink of glasses and soft chatter from the wine bar. Shoppers linger over sparkling cider and charcuterie, savoring the fleeting beauty of a moment that feels straight out of a snow globe.

The music continues with Uncle Lucius lighting up Stanley’s on December 19, blending Texas soul and Americana under the open sky. For something cosmic, CESSE’s Laser Rock ‘n’ Roll Shows on December 20 transform the planetarium dome into a swirling kaleidoscope of sound and light.

For an especially memorable night, book a seat on one of the Christmas Light Rides (Fridays and Saturdays until Christmas, plus Dec. 21–23). Bundle up in a blanket, sip something warm, and watch the glow of lights blur past frosted windows. There’s a hush in the air—something fleeting and precious, caught for an instant in each cloud of breath before it vanishes into the dark.

Of course, no East Texas December is complete without a trip aboard The Polar Express™ Train Ride in nearby Palestine. Pajama-clad passengers sip hot cocoa as the train chugs through pine woods glittering with lights, and the story of the boy who believed unfolds in real time. When Santa himself steps aboard, the joy in every child’s face seems to outshine even the brightest star above the treetops.

As December draws to a close, the streets of Tyler quiet down, the stars hang low over the pines, and the spirit of the season lingers like the warmth from a well-loved hearth.
