East Texas September Fun for the Whole Family

Once September hits, many students are already back to school. Blistering heat still prevails on most days, although Texans find comfort in the fact that cooler days are now in sight. It is almost fall, and the holidays are right around the corner. There’s still plenty to do now that school has begun, and Rosevine Inn is at the center of it all.

East Texas State Fair

September 20th through the 29th marks the Texas State Fair, an annual favorite for many Texans. It’s not just about carnival rides, games, and food. There are also concerts, exhibits, and attractions every year. Plus, local businesses award thousands in scholarships every year through the Texas State Fair.

This year, there are quite a few concerts at the State Fair. Several popular artists are performing on the Oncor Community Stage playing country, bluegrass, and classic rock. In addition, there will be a magic show. Of course, Tyler Junior College and University of Texas at Tyler jazz bands will both perform as well.

The Oncor Community Stage is free with the price of admission, but you can also see Aaron Watson and Bret Michaels live on the Stonewater Stage for just a $30 admission fee.

The State Fair will have an art show, a horticulture show, and a cooking show this year for those who are interested. There is certainly something for every interest.

Alive and Kicking Fall Art Show

Stop by the Henderson Civic Center to view original artwork crafted by local artists. Admission is free and everyone is invited to view and purchase art from vendors. This event will be at the Henderson Civic Center on September 7th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..

UT Tyler Cowan Center

Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo will be performing at the UT Tyler Cowan Center on September 10th at 7:30 p.m. This duo is responsible for 19 top 40s rock hits and has been awarded four Grammy awards in a row. This performance will be part of their 40 year anniversary tour.

On September 26th, there is another event at the Cowan Center. The Diavolo company will be performing Architecture in Motion, entertaining audiences with a unique and breath-taking style. This performance will begin at 7:30 p.m., so don’t miss out on this extraordinary opportunity.

True Vine Brewing Company

True Vine Brewing Company is a trendy hipster-style locale that has become popular in East Texas. Every weekend locals enjoy live music and artisan pizza along with their favorite craft brew.

Check out the “Brawl at the Brewery” on September 14th. Famous wrestlers will be going head-to-head at True Vine that night in this spectacular event you won’t want to miss.

As September is Hunger Action Month, a percentage of the beer sales will go towards the East Texas Food Bank. This is a free event; however, guests may bring non-perishable food items to donate.

On September 26th, there will be half-priced growlers and half-priced refills.

Musical Opportunities in East Texas

Come see a great show with Travis Powell and Sting Ray Anthony-Two of the most talented guys in the USA and they will be doing a show In Gilmer on September 22 from    4-7-a show not to be missed!

The History of Country Music will be held at Liberty Hall, starring Jake Penrod as he showcases the country genre from the 1920s through the present. Jake Penrod is a brilliant musician and his presentation is not one you want to miss. He will be at Liberty Hall on September 25th from 7 to 10 p.m.

Also at Liberty Hall, sing-along to the hit production, The Greatest Showman. This one is great for the whole family, kids and adults alike. The show starts September 27th at 7 p.m.

If you love Pink Floyd, then head over to Big Sandy Music Hall on September 27th for Floyd Void: A Tribute to Pink Floyd. Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8. Concessions will be available and kids under the age of 12 are free so long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Book Club at Goodman Museum

The Goodman Le Grand Museum is a historical tribute to the beauty and culture of Tyler, TX. A book club meets monthly at the museum, and anyone can join. September’s book is Looking for Alaska by John Green and the October book is Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett. The book club will meet September 5th on the lawn outside of the Goodman Museum.

Music on the Patio

Fresh by Brookshires will be hosting live music events every Friday and Saturday starting September 6th. The entire family can enjoy food and music out on the patio on warm East Texas evenings.

Tyler Hit the Bricks

Tyler hosts Hit the Bricks every second Saturday. September will bring a lot of fun new events downtown on September 14th. The Local Farmers Market will be there, as well as several other notable businesses.

The Sip & Shop Texas Tour will begin in the Downtown Square at 1 p.m. and tour the East Texas area. Tickets for this tour sell out fast, so be sure to book ahead of time.

Black Beauty Ranch Experience

The Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch is a unique animal sanctuary located in Murchison, TX. This sanctuary is world-renowned for having more than 800 domestic and exotic animals. Schedule a tour of the ranch that includes lunch and allows you to hand-feed the animals.

Run for a Cause

There are numerous opportunities to help out in the community, including multiple runs and walks held in the East Texas area during the month of September. If you enjoy the outdoors and want to make a difference, this is a great way to start.

  •       Zero Prostate Cancer Run – This event benefiting prostate cancer research will begin at the Villages at Cumberland Park on September 7th. There will be a Kids Superhero Dash, a 5K, and a 1-mile walk.
  •       End Epilepsy Walk – Benefitting the Epilepsy Foundation, this event will be held on September 7th at Rose Rudman Park.
  •       Rose City Triathlon – The 11th annual sprint triathlon will take place at Lake Tyler. It will include a 650-meter open water swim, 13-mile bike, and a 3.1-mile run. It will be held on September 15th.
  •       Tyler Gold Run – Held in Bergfeld Park on September 21st, the Gold Run includes both a 5K and a 10K. Proceeds will benefit cancer research and families who have been affected by childhood cancer.
  •       Piney Woods Ultra – September 21st, the Piney Woods Ultra begins at Tyler State Park. Options for running include 5K, 10K, 25K, 50K, and 100K.
  •       Great Strides Walk – The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is holding a 5K at Bergfeld Park on September 28th.
