April27-30: First Monday Trade Days Canton because The 1st is Monday May 1!!
If you happen to be in East Texas at the start of May, be sure to check out First Monday Trade Days. This monthly flea market is held in Canton, Texas and has been a beloved tradition for decades. The market is actually held on the Thursday through Sunday preceding the first Monday of each month, so the May event falls on April 27-April 30.
Purported to be the largest and oldest continually operated flea market in the United States, it’s no wonder this event draws large crowds from all over the country. With so many unique vendors and treasures to discover, it’s a shopping experience you won’t soon forget!
May 4: First Saturday Hike at Tyler State Park
Join others for the “First Saturday Hike” at Tyler State Park. We’ll meet at 9:00 a.m. in the lot adjacent to the Camp Store.�As a reminder, there is a $6.00 park entry fee, unless you have a state park annual pass. We suggest arriving at the park no later than 8:45 to allow time to go through the gates, register and pay.�As usual, please make sure you bring plenty of water, bug repellent and sunscreen.
May 5: 
Looking for a fun way to kick off your East Texas weekend? Look no further than Open Taps at True Vine Brewing on the Square! This craft beer brewing company is known for not only their delicious brews but also their involvement in the community. And now, they’re bringing back their popular Open Taps event.
Happening on the last Friday of the month from now through September, this event takes place on the Square downtown. For just $15 at the door, you’ll receive a glass and two beers to enjoy. But that’s not all – you can also explore True Vine’s taproom, mingle with other attendees on the Square, and listen to live music. And if you get hungry, a local food truck will be on hand with some yummy cuisine. Don’t forget to show some love to other local downtown businesses while you’re there!
May 4-7: “A Flower of the Field” Play at Tyler Civic Theatre
If you’re in the mood for some live theater during your East Texas visit, head on over to Tyler Civic Theatre for their production of “A Flower of the Field.” This play will be running from May 4th to May 7th, so you have several chances to catch it.
This drama, set in the 1800s, tells the story of a young girl struggling to survive and find her place in the world. With talented local actors and a beautiful set, this production is guaranteed to be a hit with theater lovers of all ages. Plus, the Tyler Civic Theatre is conveniently located in downtown Tyler, so you can easily grab a bite to eat or explore the area before or after the show. Don’t miss out on this cultural experience during your East Texas stay!
May 6: Red Dirt– BBQ & Music in Downtown Tyler
Are you a fan of live music and delicious BBQ? If so, you’ve probably already heard of the Red Dirt– BBQ & Music Festival taking place in downtown Tyler on May 6th. This annual event brings together some of the best local and regional bands, as well as mouth-watering BBQ from some of the area’s top pitmasters.
With a lively, family-friendly atmosphere and plenty of food and drinks to go around, it’s sure to be a fun-filled day for all. Plus, the festival takes place in the heart of downtown Tyler, so you can easily explore the area and check out some of the local shops and restaurants. Bring your appetite and your dancing shoes, and get ready for a day of fun and flavor at Red Dirt– BBQ & Music! While VIP tickets are long gone, some concert tickets remain.
May 6: Tyler Civic Chorale Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man”

With soaring melodies and haunting harmonies, The Armed Man leaves a lasting impression on all who hear it. Tickets are available for purchase on the Tyler Civic Chorale website or through their Facebook page. Don’t miss this incredible performance!
May 12: The Art Experience at Hinds Art Gallery
Attend a one of a kind art sale at the Hinds Art Gallery on May 12th! The Art Experience brings together local artists from various disciplines, including painters, potters, and jewelry makers, for a two-day indoor art sale. You can even see some living art as you support local artists while adding beautiful pieces to your collection.
May 12-13: Piney Woods Wine Festival
Wine lovers, mark your calendars for May 12th and 13th for the Piney Woods Wine Festival! This annual event is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys a good glass of wine.
With dozens of wineries from across Texas on hand to pour their best vintages, you’ll have the chance to sample and purchase a wide variety of wines. Plus, the festival features live music, delicious food, and beautiful surroundings, making it a great way to spend a leisurely afternoon or evening.
