Pleasant Hills Baptist Church Fireworks Celebration
One of the area’s cherished traditions is the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Fireworks Celebration on Friday, July 3, an evening that has become a favorite way for families
From the moment the gates open at 6:30 p.m., the atmosphere feels more like a community reunion than an event. Families arrive with lawn chairs, blankets, and folding tables, settling into their spots as the long summer daylight slowly softens into evening. Complimentary hot dogs, watermelon, and bottled water are offered while supplies last, creating that nostalgic feeling of a church picnic where no one is in a hurry and everyone feels welcome.
The first 250 guests will receive a commemorative 250th Anniversary T-shirt, marking this historic year in a way that people can take home and remember long after summer ends. Throughout the evening, there is constant activity but never rush—illusionist Joe Schmidt performs live shows, KVNE broadcasts from the grounds, children enjoy face painting and tattoos, and food trucks offer everything from savory bites to sweet treats.
As the sun finally disappears behind the East Texas tree line, the energy shifts. Conversations quiet, children grow more still, and all eyes turn upward. Then the sky opens in color—bright bursts of red, white, and blue reflecting across smiling faces and open fields. It’s the kind of moment that doesn’t need much explanation because everyone there understands it at the same time: this is summer, this is community, this is celebration.
